Following are the latest updates from our hardworking Management Committee. A big thanks to our Committee for the time and patience they are devoting to our club.

The Cairns Gem Club is committed to maintaining a safe environment and ensuring the health and wellbeing of members and guests is maintained by;• Cleaning the surfaces regularly and thoroughly.• Restructuring the work areas to allow for physical distancing.• Rescheduling the operating times to allow for limiting the number of members at any given time whilst allowing 1 person/4m2.
• Providing adequate facilities including washroom facilities with adequate supply of soap, water and paper towel.• Providing hand sanitiser.• Provision of tea/coffee in disposable cups.• No shared morning/afternoon tea.
It is of utmost importance that members take responsibility for their own health and the wellbeing of other members by;• Staying home if you are unwell.• If you experience suspected symptoms of COVID-19, you are strongly encouraged to get tested in line with advice from the Chief Health Officer. You must stay away from the Club while you await your test results. Additionally, if you come into contact with someone that has been diagnosed with COVID-19, you must notify the Management Committee as soon as possible.• You must use hand sanitiser or wash your hands before and after using shared areas and equipment.• Read all communications to stay aware of your individual responsibilities to support a safe environment, ask questions if unsure.• End of shift – Wipe down area and equipment with antibacterial wipe/alcohol wipe or disinfectant to ensure surface areas are hygienic, each room is responsible for their own work areas.• Ensure all members (and guests) sign in the diary at the beginning of each shift. Ensure guests include phone number and address details. Ensure members contact details are up to date.• Consider installing the Australian Government COVIDSafe app.• Stay vigilant and COVIDSafe.
It is important that everyone feels comfortable to raise health and safety concerns – • Let others know if you think they are not following health and safety guidelines as this could compromise the wellness of yourself and others.• If others let you know you are not following health and safety guidelines, respect their feedback, thank them and check on guidelines with the Management Committee.
Thank you for your continued understanding and cooperation,
The Cairns Gem Club Management Committee.
Stay safe everyone and keep things in perspective. However bad things seem, they could be a lot worse. Crises, recessions, and natural disasters occur periodically with devastating consequences. But many organisations fail even in ‘normal’ times. Individuals deal with challenges much tougher than a business crisis. What’s the worst that can happen? Resilient organisations keep things in perspective because it leads to good decision-making and this is what our hard working Committee and Members are doing.
